A Song For The Sadness - demo better than the studio version?
I've never been overly fond of ASFTS - it's a bit messy, there's no subtlety in the mix, and coming after In Eternity and Broken Algorithms, another big song makes the album start to sound a bit same-y.
I listened to the demo version of the song the other day and I much prefer it to the studio cut. The acoustic guitar / synth mix (with the synth basically playing the electric guitar part) is a nice contrast of grit and polish, and best of all is a whole extra verse of the lyric sung as a middle-8 where the guitar solo is on the 'proper' version. James sings it as though he's thinking it has a chance of making the album, it's no throw-away demo vocal. And the less polished version would lead nicely into The Left Behind.
Anyone else prefer the demo?
