My two takeaways from this:
1) After the most recent tour, it's good to hear James actually playing guitar again, and sounding most exceptionally lovely at it. It does feel like he's becoming more naturally an acoustic player. It's giving me hope for another Rewind The Film sometime in the future. 2) I'm not sure what to make of the stuff he and Dave were saying about his diction. Granted, it's always been a bit of an issue. There are officially undocumented Manics lyrics which have gone undeciphered in a world which has successfully decoded the Voynich Manuscript, and that does seem like something of a waste. On the other hand though, when James tries to sing the syllables clearly, we end up with stuff like Walk Me To The Bridge, where it sounds like he's not so much singing, but explaining in tune. I think I prefer it when he sings freely, even if I have to look the lyrics up afterwards. |

I think they were just having a joke about the dicton.
I wasn't sure why Dave was there really, the questions kind of ignored the production side. The session would have been served better if it was made about all the production on all the albums rather than just RiF. We learnt very little how certain instrument sounds were achieved bar the chemo on the Dylan Caitlin demo actually being a bunch of violins.

Said it was the first song from the album that he’s bored of and he decided to drop it at the GnR gigs (obviously Nicky wasn’t at them to intervene). Sort of semi-mocked the ‘let the banners unfold’ line. He wasn’t scathing about it, just gone off it.
James also said Born A Girl and Underdogs were the first songs he went off on TIMT and SATT. |

Too earnest He wrote it..ha...I wonder if it's harder singing your own lines or well no maybe not, but still more time to analyse and criticise yourself as y'sing. T'was funny when he spoke of Steve Albini telling him to leave Nicky alone when he was trying to give him a few helpful pointers with his singing

I totally forgot to post in this thread last week, oops! James being on Radio 2 this evening prompted me to come on here tonight. I was there and thought it was a great evening and really good value for what we got. Such an intimate venue (although the concrete booth we were sat in gave me a massive bruise on my back for a few days afterwards, ouch!) and something a bit different to a standard gig. Interesting interview and loved the banter between James and Dave Eringa. It was great to hear Black Dog too. I didn't think I'd be going to any Manics related stuff over the summer (apart from Meltdown, but that seems ages ago now), so this was a nice last minute bonus I wasn't expecting.

Any word about what podcast it'll be on and when it comes out
